The focus of this course is about introducing a model for identifying complexity in engagement and a framework for strategies to manage complexity more effectively over time.

Course Objectives:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the drivers of complexity and complex theory
  • Describe the characteristics of complexity within an engagement process
  • Identify the key sources of complexity for an engagement process
  • Identify and apply a range of strategies for dealing with complex engagement
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in choosing strategies that are purposeful, context-appropriate, responsive and iterative, and which meet the Core Values
  • Demonstrate an ability to build robust engagement strategies
  • Design an engagement plan which describes how strategies are used and when
  • Complete a risk management analysis
  • Map how complexity may change across a project or an organisation over time

Target Audience:

  • Participants who have completed a pre-requisite course from the IAP2 Way
  • Participants should be Level 3 practitioners with a minimum of 5 years of experience in:
    • leading the planning and implementation of P2/engagement processes.
    • managing teams and planning operations where there is some risk and complexity.
    • managing key relationships for the P2/engagement processes, be able to troubleshoot, fix problems and implement change in processes as they are needed.
    • Working as a consultant in the sector leading the P2/engagement processes across a range of contexts and sectors

Course Delivery:

This is an IAP2 Canada training course delivered externally by IAP2 licensed trainers.

Prerequisite:

Fundamentals of P2 and Engagement, the IAP2 Ways in Challenging Contexts, or any course from the previous foundations' program.

Steph Roy McCallum

Her work in conflict transformation has taken her to 5 continents, leading brave, honest conversations to solve the challenges in our lives, organizations and communities – together. Steph is a trained Co-Active Leadership coach, a Certified Professional Facilitator and a Certified NeuroTransformational Coach. She is an IAP2 Trainer, course developer and co-lead of curriculum development for the new IAP2 Global Learning Pathway being launched in 2023. Steph believes that brave, honest conversations are how we solve the challenges in our world, together.
