WHO WE ARE About IAP2 Canada
International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Canada is an association of professionals in the field of public participation (P2), who seek to promote and improve the practice in relation to individuals, governments, institutions and other entities that affect the public interest in Canada and around the world.

What is Public Participation?
As an example, if a city is planning to build a new park, expand a highway, or change school boundaries, instead of making all the decisions behind closed doors, they talk to the people who live there; residents, parents, business owners, etc. to understand their needs, concerns, and ideas. That process of involving the public is called public participation.
IAP2 Canada’s job is to help make that process better, fairer, and more meaningful. We train and support professionals on how to listen to communities effectively, create opportunities for people to be heard, and ensure that what the public says actually influences decisions.
